Analysis of Music Video Related to my Genre-Pop 3

Music Video: One Direction-What Makes You Beautiful

Genre: Pop

Analysis:
This music video is very typical of the Pop genre because the main audience is aimed towards youths,  this is emphasised in both the lyrics and the visual performance/acting, furthermore this video is very typical of Goodwin's Video Analysis Theory as their is a significantly clear link between the lyrics, the soundtrack and the visual and thus this helps to emphasise the genre to the audience because it is light hearted but still evokes emoticon from the audience watching.

As far as the Pop genre goes it doesn't follow the genre very typically, the video length for example is much longer than the conventional video, also typical Pop videos follow a greater emphasis on production and technology rather than live performance, this video contradicts that as it is much more natural and has very limited use of technology within the actual video.

Analysis of Music Video Related to my Genre-Pop 2

Music Video: Ed Sheeran-Thinking out Loud

Genre: Pop

Analysis:
This music video is very different from others and conflicts the typical characteristics of a Pop music video because the entire visual is the main artist using dance performance rather than musical performance to express the song, normally their would either be a mix of musical and physical performance or mainly musical.

This video is also very congruent of Goodwin's Video Analysis Theory, in the video the relationship between the artists dance performance and the lyrics of the song are very clear and throughout their is a frequent reference to the notion of looking due to the female characters outfit and the routine that she follows in the video.

Overall this is a very interesting video due to its contradiction to the typical conventions of a Pop music video although it is still clearly linked to Goodwin's Theory.

Digipak Research and Analysis

Background knowledge:
Digipak's typically consist of a book-style paperboard or card type of pack, containing usually one or two plastic trays that will hold a CD/DVD inside. The early 2000's showed a rise in popularity between artists and their decisions to use digipaks because of the abundance and creative abilities that came with the rise of digital technology. However, these type of digipaks often shown signs of wear easily due to the often low cost materials used in their creation. Manufacturers have tried to reduce environmental impact by trying to introduce recycled components into the plastic trays.

Conventions of Digipak's

Conventional Digipak's are 6 sided and often contain a booklet inside, containing lyrics of the songs and information about the artist/band along with pictures or possibly posters. Along with lyrics, some bands/artists explain the meanings behind the songs so that fans can relate to them.
Digipak's used to be the prime way that people found out about their favourite bands and even though their is information in these packs, people are far likely to use other media forms for example the Internet, this is particularly true today because every artist/band is likely to have a website or social media page which will also be included on the Digipak as an alternate form of advertising.

Analysis of Music Video related to my Genre-Pop

Music Video: Flo Rida-Whistle

Genre: Pop

Analysis:
This music video follows the key characteristics of the pop Genre very well, despite being slightly longer in length than traditional Pop songs (2-3 minutes) the Music Video still the codes and conventions of the Pop Genre.
For example the video uses lots of close-up shots on the artist Flo Rida so as to emphasis his voice and his overall role in the video, also the video emphasises the Pop Genre by including a large variety of performance and dancing which are stereotypical characteristics of the Pop Genre.

The video also uses stereotypes by sexualising the women that appear in the clip, they are mostly presented in bikinis or short dresses and are either playing in the ocean or dancing with the artist, they're attractiveness is also emphasised in the use of slow motions when they are dancing provocatively, this also follows the codes and conventions of a Music Video as there actions link in to the lyrics of the song Flo Rida is singing.

Overall this Music Video follows the codes and conventions of both a Music Video and the Pop Genre expertly.
